Introduction
Established in 1992,
The Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB) is an independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization with its headquarters based in Kathmandu, Nepal. It works toward ensuring rich biodiversity and prosperous communities in the South Asia region.
ANSAB
has a focal position in the field through its work
for over a decade in ecological, technological, economic,
and socio-cultural fronts associated to people-centered
conservation, management, and use of biodiversity,
especially non-timber forest products (NTFPs) in Nepal.
It has been consistently evolving, consolidating and
institutionalizing the approaches and strategies for
community based enterprise development and sustainable
natural resources management.
Vision
ANSAB has a vision of a “rich biodiversity and prosperous communities”. This vision includes rich, healthy, and productive ecosystems that are actively managed and used by local communities that could address threats to biodiversity and advance sustainable resource management. It also incorporates community-based enterprises that adopt commercial approaches for natural products (from the production stage through to the marketing stage) that are environmentally sustainable and that also increase the communities’ standards of living and harness social equity.

Organizational
Structure
ANSAB is governed by a board of international experts,
and has a dedicated team of industrious members and staff,
with specialization in diverse areas pertaining to resource
management and livelihood generation. Executive Director
appointed by the board is the ex-offico member of the
Board of Directors, and functional head of the organisation.
To
be highly effective in its activities, ANSAB adopts
networked, flexible and flat organizational structure.
It focuses on cross-functional teams to deal with the
diverse nature of work in organization. Because of
the very nature of the cross cutting issues it has
to deal with, ANSAB promotes multi-task personnel and
teams in the organization.
ANSAB manages its programs in four areas: Economic Developement; Natural Resource Management; Policy, Research and Networking; and Capacity Building and Services. ANSAB has three permanent
committes for new business development, organization
management and project monitoring. The organization
