Payment for Ecosystem Services

ANSAB has been a pioneer in the establishment of payment schemes for ecosystem services in Nepal. In 2006, it studied CFUGs in Nepal and Uttarakhand (India) as a tangible example of how forest carbon credits and payment for additional ecosystem services (biodiversity, water, and soil quality) could be pursued in the Nepalese context. In 2007, it began work to provide field based experiences to develop clear and credible frameworks for REDD financing with considering broader development goals, including livelihoods security, poverty reduction, food, water and energy security, land tenure, good governance, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
