Small and Medium Natural Resource based Enterprises

ANSAB pioneered establishing enterprises based on non timber forest products (NTFP) in Nepal promoting sustainable utilization, processing, value chain development and marketing of these products with the focus on the interest of the poorest local people. ANSAB took special interest in developing and strengthening the capability of community forest user groups and smaller organizations for sustainable forest management and linking them to the market, service providers and national policy through participatory roles of local communities, government and ANSAB. Based on the approach, it has developed and strengthened a total of 1,166 economic entities involved in the collection, value addition and trading of NTFPs, while bringing a total of 101,055 hectares of forest and meadows under the improved community management of 407 community forest user groups (CFUGs). These economic entities include a total of 68 regional and national processing and marketing enterprises, including one of the most important distributors of handmade paper, Himalayan Biotrade Ltd. (HBTL), and the most important distributor of bio-briquettes, Himalayan Naturals.
