This research study analyses the impact of the pilot REDD payment project that would be helpful in deciding whether the REDD program can be scaled up at the national level while ensuring that it is carbon effective, cost efficient, equitable and capable of producing co-benefits to the local community. The overall goal to examine the implications of carbon payments for local communities in three watersheds in Nepal.
The specific research questions are:
a.     Can REDD payments stimulate sustainable management and conservation of forests for carbon?
b.     What is the impact of REDD payments on livelihoods and on social welfare at the local levels?
c.      What are effective fund management and benefit sharing mechanisms that are most likely to help REDD fulfill its intended objectives?
