Vacancy Announcement: Marketing Officers (2)

ANSAB along with HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Winrock International and Sustainable Technology Adaptive Research and Implementation Center, Nepal (STARIC/N) is implementing a project named “Up scaling the production and consumption of bio-energy to reduce carbon emissions and enhance local Employment in Nepal” funded by European Commission starting from January 2014 for four years. We are currently seeking qualified, dynamic and result oriented personnel for the following position:

Job position: Marketing Officer (Requires extensive field visit: more than 50% of working time in field)

Numbers required: 2 (two)

Duty Station: Kathmandu and Nepalgunj

Reporting to: Team Leader (Project Management Unit)

Job purpose:

The Marketing Officer is responsible to ensure proper and effective implementation of marketing activities; facilitate and capacitate charcoal value chain actors in linkage development and market expansion especially in hotel, restaurant and brick kiln sector. Apart from the thematic responsibility, the incumbent will also act as a marketing focal person of assigned project cluster.

Overall duties and responsibilities of the incumbent are as follows:

1. Compliance of Policies, Guidelines and Manuals

Ensure compliance of the policies, guidelines and Manuals of ANSAB (Personnel, Financial and Administrative and other applicable policies, guidelines and Manuals) and project guidelines.

2. Planning, Implementation and Quality Assurance of training component

  • Support PMU in preparing Detail Implementation Plan-DIP yearly basis especially on marketing component.
  • Conduct market research of bio char to identify market size, potential buyers, actors of the supply chain, support needed to dynamism the free play of market forces.
  • Take a lead in implementing marketing activities such as product design as per user need, competitive pricing, branding, packaging, establishing distribution networks and conducting promotional activities including promotional campaigns  of charcoal product and accessories and with active involvement of the producers/entrepreneurs.
  • Identify and assess potential buyers and ensure the regular purchase of the product by adopting the complement equipment e.g., stove etc. in all working districts.
  • Regularly assess the market dynamics and establish linkage between charcoal producers and traders.
  • Strengthen bio-char producers associations and link with restaurant and bar association, hotel association and brick kiln at district and national level.
  • Identify the existing value chain and educate the entrepreneurs, what to be done by the entrepreneurs to be retained in the chain, how new enterprise need planning to enter into the chain.
  • Provide guidance to low capacitate entrepreneurs by taking lead in promotion and selling the products.
  • Work in close consultation with enterprise coordinator in capacitating the stakeholder in enterprise related areas.

3. Capacity Building of Partners

  • Support/collaborate with PMU in conducting various market promotions and campaign as per PCUs plan.
  • Capacitate value chain actors (i.e. marketing companies, retailers, Association of charcoal producers; Community Forest User Groups, hotel, restaurants and brick Industries including Business Development Service Providers-BDS, employee from socially and economically disadvantaged groups).

4. Monitoring and Documentation

  • Support PMU team to prepare quality progress report and timely submission.
  • Prepare marketing related reports feedbacks and lesson learnt.
  • Support Knowledge Management Officer by providing relevant information.

5. Required Education, Experience and Competencies


Master’s degree in any discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience in forest products marketing; MBA with marketing will be an advantage. However, exceptional candidate having Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 5 years of proven experience in bio-char marketing or FMCG marketing is considered.

Experience and competencies:

  • Experience in marketing of the forest based products. Proven experiences of product launching, branding, and customer feedback observation
  • Excellent in preparation of marketing materials- product leaflets, price list, push selling approach
  • Good in coordination and communication skills
  • Experiences in FMCG marketing will be an advantage
  • Experiences of working in marketing team as good team player
  • Sensitive to Corporate Social  Responsibility (CSR),
  • Experience in organizational capacity building of NGOs
  • Familiarity with the judicial and legal mechanism; understanding of migration issues will be an advantage
  • Excellent in written and spoken Nepali and English
  • Proficiency in using MS Office application
